Happy Christmas everyone! It has been an incredibly busy couple of weeks full of fun and festivities! We hope that you are looking forward to the Christmas break, and find time to relax and enjoy it as a family. There is lots to share in the newsletter this week: continued learning; fantastic performances; PTA fundraising events and trips. Please enjoy reading the latest updates. Thank you all for your continued support this year and we look forward to seeing what the new year will bring for Micklem.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will see you all on Monday 6th January to start 2025!
Have a fantastic break and STAY SAFE!
On Tuesday 10th December, Art Club went to meet he Mayor of Dacorum as part of the prize for Bella winning the Christmas Card competition. They had a great time and got to sit in some very fancy chairs in very impressive rooms. Keep aiming high, Art Club!
On Thursday 12th December, Children were invited to buy gifts at Elfridges to gift as Christmas presents. Our friendly elves supported the children to attend in their classes and have a wonderful time picking out gifts. On the same day, we also had our Christmas Fayre. This was full of exciting games, activities, raffles and we had a visit from the big man himself! Santa made himself comfy in Elfridges and delighted the children with a small gift. Thank you to everyone that supported in making these events successful and thank you for your generous contributions, both for the activities and for buying tickets and tokens. The Christmas Fayre made £1633.33 and we haven't finished counting the raffles yet! Thank you so much for contiuning to support the school.
Nursery and Reception kicked off the last week of term with their dress rehearsal and performance of 'Baarmy Bethlehem'. They were brilliant, and it got everyone in the mood for a festive week. I was so impressed by the confidence on show throughout!
And Key Stage 1 carried it on with their fantastic performances of 'Lights, Camel, Action'. Everyone had a lot of fun taking part in this and it looked to me like the adults had fun watching it as well. It was a brilliant performance from Year 1 and 2 and got everyone in the party spirit!
We celebrated the end of term in style with children, staff and parents/carers coming together for our annual Carols Around the Tree. We sang our hearts out and everyone felt truly festive! It was wonderful to see so many of you there. Well done to the winners of the raffles, who were announced during the morning. We also said goodbye to Delia (our school cook) who is retiring at the end of this term and Mrs Isufaj, who is moving on to her next challenge at a new school. We want to thank them both for all of their hard work at Micklem, and wish them all the best for the new year.
Miss Courtnell will be coming back in January to teach Year 4 and Miss Sentance and Mrs Potts will continue to teach in Year 5.
Everyone was invited to take part in our Christmas Dinner today. The whole school enjoyed a festive roast dinner with their friends. Staff ate with the children and enjoyed one final hurrah before breaking up for Christmas. Brussel Sprouts were not the most popular part of the meal...who knew?!
On Thursday 19th December year 6 met their reception buddies. The children loved working together to create a Christmas tealight and a salt-dough Christmas decoration. We all had so much fun and all the children are so excited to spend more time with their buddies: reading, playing games and crafting!
We have been busy using hammers, palm drills and fire to make Christmas decorations at Forest School.
Of course we couldn't have a fire without marshmallows!
This year, we have introduced Class Dojo. A way of celebrating individuals and classes that are following our school rules of:
Be Kind.
Show Respect.
Aim High.
Children will be able to receive one or two points for these core values from any member of staff. We will keep an eye on which individuals, classes and house groups are being the kindest, most respectful and ambitious over the year.

We have had interest from several parents regarding the role of parent governor. If you would like to support the school and work collaboratively with senior leaders to ensure the school is the best version of itself, then please request an application form from the School Office. If you are not sure and would like more information, please speak to the School Office. We will contact any interested parties in the new year to discuss the next steps of the process.
